When someone asks ¨ What do you love? ¨ It’s typically easy for us to start the list…My family, friends, boyfriend, college/school, a certain hobby, and even God. There is one thing we typically forget to love sometimes, ourselves. Love is defined multiple ways in scripture, but there is a certain way that God calls us to love ourselves. There is a pressure that has damaged the confidence of so many young women rooted in societies standard of beauty. I have caught myself obsessing over the new THING that will make me more beautiful. As a Christian woman I have always heard I am fearfully and wonderfully made or salt and light, but I never interpreted that to beauty. Ephesians 2:10 reminds us that we are the handiwork of Christ. Something that has comforted me as I have navigated self image is the perfection in God and His creation. We live in a fallen world filled with evil and broken standards that lead us to lose sight if God's design. For me, I feel like the world expects me to be a size zero, tall, blonde, and of course be dressed in the best brands from head to toe. Now, don’t get me wrong, you should take care of the body God gave you and it is TOTALLY okay to have nicer things. What is important here is that we know our true value and worth apart from the world. For those of you reading this who may struggle with identity, body image, or even eating habits I want you to remember this:
The world’s imperfections are God’s perfections.
To God we are not defined by our hair, our skin, our OOTD, or anything else that the world may use to define us. We should seek to be defined by God and live daily for His Kingdom. 1 John 1:9 says this,
“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”.
To me, knowing that having a personal relationship with Christ has cleansed my soul gives me all the confidence I need. If you’re right with God you will learn to be right with yourself. Only then will you see your true value!
