Have you ever been called on to answer a question you didn’t know the answer to, or to present a project you weren’t ready for? I’m sure we have all been there and we know how it feels to be unprepared, and if you have ever been asked a question about your faith and had no idea what to say, keep reading!
I grew up in church learning about God and the stories in the bible. I have always believed to an extent but to be honest, I didn’t really know what I believed or how to talk about it until a few years ago. I would get asked questions at school about my faith and I would have no idea how to respond. I would feel ashamed for not knowing my own faith or what the bible said. This motivated me to begin to study and read and I am still learning so much about what I believe.
Our purpose in life is to go and make disciples of all the nations-Matthew 28:18. But this is hard to do when we do not have a foundation of beliefs to share with others. We cannot expect others to become disciples if we are not first disciples ourselves. The only way to prepare yourself for this command is to read the bible and learn what it says. Here is our bible verse for this week:
1 Peter 3:15-16
“If someone asks about your hope as a believer, always be ready to explain it. But do this in a gentle and respectful way. Then if people speak against you, they will be ashamed when they see what a good life you live because you belong to Christ.”
It is so important to learn what the bible says and the context behind the scriptures. When we begin to learn about God and the way He wants us to live, the boldness to share the gospel will develop in us. We will also begin to share without saying a word. Our actions are most important, we can share the gospel and show love without opening our mouths. This week I encourage you to examine your recent actions and words and see if they align with the word of God. Try to discover a routine that helps you begin to study the bible to learn more about what you believe.
If someone came up asked you about YOUR faith and belief, would be ready to explain it? If so…
What would you say to that person?
Do you truly know what you believe or do you go off of what your parents or someone else believe?
When will you spend time in Gods word this week?
