Before you read about me, I want to thank Cass B for this opportunity and her incredible ministry. You are such a vessel and blessing to many.
Hi friends, I am Nickalus Malone and there is no mistake you are reading this right now. In the next few minutes I just ask that you bare with me as I break down my testimony of how I have come to have a relationship with Christ. Ever since pre-school I was in a church setting. The pre-school I attended was within a church so I was able to grow up with all the fun songs & dances.( I think I can still dance) Once i moved up to kindergarten I attended a private catholic school where “Religion” was a class. From that grade up to 8th grade I learned about Jesus and was able to learn more. However, it was not until my 8th grade year when i began to take my faith seriously. Well I did it I graduated that private school and now it was time to move onto Highschool! This transition was very rough on me not being as invested in my relationship with Christ. Looking back at that is a valuable lesson of never allowing people or the atmosphere to carry the weight of your relationship with God. I struggled, big time! From hanging out with the wrong crowd, to being a person I was not! Next year I was blessed as a sophomore to start varsity football. In that short time I began to get a big head and became arrogant. One day after practice a friend came up to me and asked if I’d come to D groups( devotional groups for highschool students) and while being arrogant and on a high horse I told him to ask me next week because I did not really want to go. The following week he asked me again and I chose to hold up my end of the deal so I went to church groups that night and... ever since then I kept going back! It was the community. The guys I’d see around ever day and knowing that we were here for a good reason. I began growing in my relationship with the Lord again and come spring time junior year I decided to get baptized!(May 2, 2018 to be exact) That night was such a spirit filled moment and I knew it was the right timing! Senior year I grew in my faith like none other. A huge contribution of it was due to the fact of being a senior or an “old guy” you wanted to help out the younger people who are next up in the ministry. Another valuable lesson is that it’s not always about you. After that year of helping build up others as I prepared to leave I was also preparing for my first year of college. An unexpected event on June 9, 2019 was during a Senior All-Star football game I tore my ACL and Meniscus.( it was on a 65 yard touchdown so totally worth it) This is a huge moment because I wasn’t able to play football my first year in college. I had to sit out and watch from the side line. Which was excruciating and very tough mentally. Valuable lesson number three here, His ways are for His good! Yes that sounds weird of how me tearing my ACL was a good thing, but the blessings that God brought through taking me down the path I did was insane. I was opened up to the power of healing, made great friends, understood the importance of patience, and learned more about Him. My second semester of my first year after going on spring break it got extended, then about two weeks later the students received an email about how the college was shutting down. We had prior knowledge of the possibility, but I assume things were a little too out of hand. So again I had to wait and trust in His plan for my next school. Fall of 2020 I attended a school in Nebraska. This was a school I loved, I was able to learn about becoming an athletic trainer and play football! It couldn’t get better than this. However, it got worse for me. I began to slip into a funk where I was not enjoying my classes at all, I did not enjoy the sport I’ve played since 1st grade, and I was struggling heavy with my faith. So no that brings us to this moment. I’m currently home attending a community college where everything is online and I’m able to work and serve at my home church! I would love to leave you with some encouragement on the subject of “faith” your walk with Christ will not always be easy, but please no matter how rough and tough the situation or circumstances are pray.
Just talk to God in those moments. One small act of faith is all it takes.
