Fall at His feet...

One of the things I catch myself saying often is “if I had more time I would…”. As a full time college student I have many obligations such as working to pay rent, student organizations, my sorority, my relationship, my friendships, and most importantly my studies. When explaining how busy I am to others I tend to rattle off all these things I see as priorities, but fail to mention my personal relationship with God. Why is this? Well, sometimes I use that “if I had more time I would…” statement to justify not spending time with God. There is a perfect depiction in scripture of two women, Martha and Mary, who have a passion for Christ, but one is consumed with the idea of impressing Him while the other is focused on serving Him.

"Martha, Martha," the Lord answered, "you are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed—or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her." Luke 10:41-42

When Jesus says “you are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed-or indeed only one” I am reminded of the many Earthly things that consume my life and cloud the quality time I should be spending with Jesus daily. You see Martha was a believer but had her eyes fixed on the things she thought would build a reputation for Jesus when He visited her and Mary. God does not love you because you have good grades, make however much a week, pay your rent on time, or because you have a good group of friends. God loves you because you are His child, and very similar to our Earthly fathers, He wants you to spend time talking to Him and developing a stronger relationship with your Savior. Now for those of you reading who do not know this story and are wondering “okay so what did Mary do?”, this is what scripture shows us.

“As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what he said. But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!” Luke 10:38-40

Mary is quick to fall to the feet of Jesus and give her full attention. This DOES NOT mean we shouldn't take responsibility for our commitments we have, but how long has it been since you’ve fallen at the feet of Jesus and committed to Him the way you commit to school or sports? So what do I do with this? Well recently I have found myself saying this “I will make time with God THEN….”

This mindset has created a strong difference between having to and wanting to fall at the feet of Christ daily.

Let me tell ya, everything still gets done! If anything I see more peace in my day to day life. I want to encourage you to write out all responsibilities you have and start with your relationship with God. Pray over that list and I promise you he will provide.

Fall at His feet.
